MidjourneyCodes — Guide

How to use style references
in your AI images

Midjourney style references (srefs) let you instantly apply any aesthetic to your prompts. Best of all, you can use them for free through Meta AI — no Midjourney subscription required.

What is a style reference?

A style reference is a numeric code that tells an AI image generator exactly what visual aesthetic to apply. Think of it as a preset that sets the mood, colour palette, lighting, and overall feel of an image — without you having to describe every detail.

MidjourneyCodes gives you 2,248 top-ranked srefs so you always start with proven, high-quality aesthetics rather than guessing random numbers.

Method 1 — Meta AI (Free, No Subscription)

Meta AI has a direct partnership with Midjourney, which means Midjourney style references work natively inside Meta AI's image generator — completely free.

  1. Go to Meta AI Open meta.ai in your browser, or open the Meta AI feature inside Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp.
  2. Start an image generation Click the "Imagine" button or type /imagine in the chat. You'll see the image creation interface appear.
  3. Write your prompt Describe the scene you want. Be specific: subject, setting, lighting, mood. Example: "A woman walking through a rainy Tokyo street at night, neon reflections"
  4. Add the sref code at the end After your prompt, add --sref followed by the code you copied from MidjourneyCodes. Leave a space between your prompt and --sref.
  5. Generate your image Hit enter or click generate. Meta AI applies the Midjourney style aesthetic to your image instantly.

Pro Tip

Try the same prompt with 3–5 different sref codes and compare the results. Small numeric differences can produce dramatically different aesthetics.

Method 2 — Midjourney (Full Control)

If you have a Midjourney subscription, you can use srefs directly in the Midjourney Discord or web app for full creative control.

  1. Open Midjourney Go to midjourney.com and sign in, or join the Midjourney Discord server.
  2. Use the /imagine command Type /imagine in any channel and write your prompt in the text field.
  3. Append the sref parameter Add --sref [code] at the end of your prompt. You can also add --sw (style weight, 0–1000) to control how strongly the style applies.
  4. Adjust style weight (optional) Use --sw 500 for a balanced mix of your prompt and the sref style, or --sw 1000 for maximum sref influence.

Tips for best results

Match your subject to the style

Browse the 3 sample images for each sref (Sample 1, 2, 3) to understand the aesthetic before writing your prompt. The samples show portrait, landscape, and still-life renderings of that style.

Keep your prompt short

With srefs, less is more. A 5–10 word prompt often works better than a long detailed one — the sref does the heavy lifting for mood and aesthetics.

Combine srefs

In Midjourney, you can reference multiple srefs at once: --sref 2471217796 662314578. This blends both aesthetics together for a unique result.

Copy the full command

Use the Copy --sref button on any card to copy the ready-to-paste command directly to your clipboard.
